ACB, Klusener Decided to End Coaching Contract

Afghanistan Cricket Board & Lance Klusener, the head coach of Afghanistan Men’s Cricket Team, in a mutual agreement, decided not to extend the contract of Mr. Lance as the Head coach of Afghanistan National Cricket Team.

The former South African Allrounder, Lance Klusener, was appointed in the role in September 2019, his contract will not be extended and will expire on December 31, 2021.

Afghanistan Men’s Cricket Team performed fairly well under Klusener. During his first series as Head coach, Afghanistan Lost a test & 3 ODIs to West Indies but came back well to beat them 2-1 in the 3 match T20I series in India in 2019.

Afghanistan did not play much cricket in 2020 due to Covid-19, their only outing was against Ireland in India, which they finished winning the 3 match T20I series 2-1. They also beat Ireland 3-0 in the ICC CWC Super League in UAE earlier this year, lost the first test to Zimbabwe & came back nicely beating them in the 2nd test & 3-0 in the T20I series in March 2021.

Later on, Afghanistan participated in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, where Afghanistan won two out of the 5 matches they have played. Overall under Lance Klusener, Afghanistan won one out of three tests, 3 out of 6 ODIs and 9 out of 14 T20I matches in a more than two years period.

Afghanistan Cricket Board & the National Cricket Team have had the coaching services of Mr. Lance Klusener for more than two years; shared & will take away some exciting memories from his tenure. ACB thank him, appreciate his efforts with the national team & wish him all the very best in his coaching career ahead.

It’s to mention, that the ACB has launched the recruitment process for hiring a new head coach and is looking forward to have the services of another reasonable option to replace Lance Klusener as the head coach of Afghanistan for the upcoming events.
