AZIZULLAH FAZLI APPOINTED AS ACB CHAIRMAN

The president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Patron-in-Chief of Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) His Excellency Mohammad Ashrafi Ghani appointed Mr. Azizullah Fazli as the Chairman of ACB replacing Mr. Atif Mashal.

AZIZULLAH FAZLI APPOINTED AS ACB CHAIRMAN

The president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Patron-in-Chief of Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) His Excellency Mohammad Ashrafi Ghani appointed Mr. Azizullah Fazli as the Chairman of ACB replacing Mr. Atif Mashal.

In a press conference organised at ACB Headquarters, outgoing ACB chairman Atif Mashal introduced Mr. Azizullah Fazli as the new ACB chairman and welcomed his appointment by the President’s office.

CEO Shafiqullah Stanikzai welcomed the all participants that included ACB officials and staff, said he is sad to bid farewell to a close friend and colleague in Mr. Mashal but at the same time was happy to welcome another friend and colleague in Mr. Fazli as the new chairman of ACB.

Mr. Stanikzai drew attention to the achievements of Mr. Mashal during his tenure as ACB chairman saying that “During Mr. Mashal’s tenure, ACB’s constitution, National Selection Policy and several Departmental Policies were approved. Afghanistan became a Full Member of ICC and ACB also achieved Test Status, List- A and First-Class status for domestic cricket.” Stanikzai expressed hope that Mr. Fazli will continue the legacy of Mr. Mashal.

Subsequently, outgoing chairman, Atif Mashal thanked the president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani for trusting him with the responsibility to lead ACB for a period of almost two years. He added that the strategic objectives that had been set at the beginning of his tenure have mostly been achieved. Mashal further added that he is pleased to welcome Mr. Fazli as his successor and would support him whenever required. He touched on his achievements as mentioned by Mr. Stanikzai earlier.

Mashal expressed pride in the fact that under his administration, ACB was able to have a league of its own. He called APL a national project and resembled it to TAPI - one of the major regional natural resources projects involving Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. Mashal thanked ACB Staff for their cooperation during his tenure and urged them to support Mr. Fazli. Mr. Mashal then welcomed Mr. Fazli and congratulated him on his new role. Concluding his remarks, he requested Mr. Fazli to bring the ongoing projects at ACB to fruition during his tenure.

Acknowledging the remarks by Mr. Stanikzai, Mr. Mashal and others present in the event, newly elected chairman of ACB, Azizullah Fazli expressed his gratitude to the President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Patron-in chief of ACB, H.E Mohammad Ashraf for trusting him with the responsibility to lead an important organization as ACB.

Mr. Fazli pledged to reevaluate ACB’s current structure, bring changes in ACB Selection Committee, and reevaluate APL contract. He vowed to strengthen the domestic cricket structure in the country and seek to standardize and bring to fruition the ongoing infrastructure and construction projects. Concluding the event, Mr. Fazli acknowledged the efforts of his colleagues and friends including former players who have taken Afghanistan cricket to new heights.

Mr. Atif Mashal received a memento from ACB officials in recognition of his contributions to the Afghanistan Cricket Board and growth cricket in the country.
