All-round Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka in the first Youth ODI

Wafiullah (68), Noman (64) and Jamshid (57) scored half-centuries before Khalil Ahmad (5/38) bowled a firing spell to lead Afghanistan U19 to a 50-run win over Sri Lanka U19 in the first Youth ODI.

Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Safiullah, Jamshid and Noman scored important half-centuries but Sri Lankan bowlers fought back to restrict Afghanistan to 232 in the first inning.

Sri Lanka started off really well and at one stage, it looked like they would chase the target with ease. But Kahlil Ahmad fired up in his 2nd spell and took four wickets in three overs to help Afghanistan reduce Sri Lanka to 182/10. The visitors were 169/3 but suddenly lost 7 wickets for the next 13 runs to fall short by 50 runs.

Khalil Ahmad was named the player of the Match. Both teams will face off again tomorrow in the 2nd Youth ODI of the two-match series at the Tolerance Oval.
