AFGHANISTAN WIN ICC WORLD CUP QUALIFIER 2018

Afghanistan beat West Indies by 7 wickets to win the ICC World Cup Qualifier.

Having won the toss, Windies captain Jason Holder decided to bat first. Mujeeb Zadran broke the opening partnership as he claimed the important wicket of Chris Gayle. Windies batsmen had tough time facing Afghan spinners. Rashid Khan became the fastest to take 100 ODI wickets as it only took him 44 matches to achieve the milestone. Teenage mystery spinner Mujeeb Zadran continued his great run of form in the tournament taking 4 wickets three of which came in the last over of the Windies innings as they were bowled out for 204 runs in the 47th over.

Afghan openers put on yet another good partnership putting on 59 runs in 10 overs before Gulbadin Naib lost his wicket to Keemu Paul. Mohammad Shahzad, on the other hand, played an entertaining knock of 84 runs before he got out off Chris Gayle’s bowling. Rahmat Shah also contributed with a stable innings of 51 runs before he also lost his wicket to Chris Gayle.

Mohammad Nabi hit 3 consecutive sixes off three balls as Afghanistan chased the target with 7 wickets in hand and 9.2 overs remaining.
