Afghanistan secure second win to win IBA Cup 2020

Afghanistan take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in Islamic Bank of Afghanistan Cup 2020 as they beat Ireland by 21 runs in the second match of the series at the Greater Noida Ground, India.

Batting first, Afghanistan posted 184/4 in the 20 overs as skipper Asghar Afghan top-scored with 49 runs while Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Hazratullah Zazai and Mohammad Nabi scored 35, 28 and 27 runs respectively. Ireland’s Chris Young and Gareth Delany took a wicket each.

In response, Ireland could manage 163/6 in the required 20 overs thus losing the match by 21 runs as Afghanistan took a lead of 2-0 in the three match series. Irish skipper Andy Balbirnie top-scored with 46 while Harry Tector scored 36 runs as well. Afghanistan’s Mujeeb ur Rahman took three wickets.

Mujeeb ur Rahman received his first man of the match award in T20Is for his performance today.

The third and final match of the series will be played on Tuesday at the same venue.
