Kabul, 2nd July 2023: Afghanistan Cricket Board’s National Selection Committee today finalized a 16-member squad for the two-match T20I series against Bangladesh which will be played from July 14 to 16 in Sylhet.

Senior Wicket-keeper Batter Mohammad Shahzad has returned to the squad after an impressive domestic season whereas top-order batter Hazratullah Zazai has returned to the side after missing the recently held three-match T20I series against Pakistan. In addition, an uncapped fast bowler Wafadar Momand has also been called up to the squad to face Bangladesh.

Afghanistan Squad for Bangladesh T20Is: Rashid Khan (C), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Mohammad Shahzad (WK), Hazratullah Zazai, Ibrahim Zadran, Sediqullah Atal, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Karim Janat, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad, Naveen Ul Haq, Noor Ahmad and Wafadar Momand.

Asadullah Khan, the national chief selector, expressed his thoughts on the squad selection, stating, "We have consulted T20I captain Rashid Khan and Head Coach Jonathon Trott in finalizing the squad for the upcoming T20I series. We have achieved decent results in T20Is in recent months and our focus remains on further strengthening our performance in this format. The upcoming series presents a great opportunity for us to showcase our abilities and further accomplish our goals in T20 cricket."

Currently, the Afghanistan National Team is in Chattogram where they will face the hosts in a three-match ODI series on July 5th, 8th, and 11th. Following the ODIs, they will travel to Sylhet to compete in the two T20Is scheduled for July 14th and 16th.
