Raees Ahmadzai is a former Afghan cricketer, who retired in May 2010. Ahmadzai was a part of the Afghanistan team that progressed to the 2009 ICC World Cup Qualifiers and later gained ODI status. He made his ODI debut against Scotland, where he scored 39 runs, helping Afghanistan to a 39 run victory in the first-ever ODI the country has ever played.
Raees has represented Afghanistan in 5 ODIs and & 8 T20Is. He was also a part of Afghanistan's victorious 2010 ICC World T20 Qualifier squad and was later named in Afghanistan's squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2010. Shortly after playing the ICC World T20 in 2010, Ahmadzai announced his retirement from the game. He wanted to focus on developing the younger generation of Afghan cricketers.
Since then, he has worked with the different junior-level teams of the country. He has coached the National Senior Team, National A, National Emerging, National U19s (Current) & National U17s teams respectively. He has also had coaching tenures with the domestic T20 franchises like Speen Ghar Tigers, Mis Ainak Knights, and Amo regions respectively.
During his professional life, he has led Afghanistan National Team for almost 2 years and has bagged the first man of the match award for Afghanistan. After that, he went on to win the player of the match award 4 more times for his country. He has also won the peace and sports award in France Monaco and was the first-ever player to become UNICEF's National goodwill ambassador.
Ahmadzai likes to spend time doing social and charity activities. He also tends to help and support the younger generation of the country in the field of cricket. He also admires seeing the Afghanistan Cricket Team among the top 4 teams in the cricketing world.
As a board member, he believes that being involved in Afghan Cricket from its start till date, he better knows all aspects of the game in the country and will work to better demonstrate areas for improvement.
