About Afghanistan Cricket Board

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is the sole independent governing body for managing, organizing, and developing Cricket (Men and Women) in Afghanistan. The game of cricket was officially established in 1995 in Afghanistan. It was granted affiliate membership by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2001, associate membership of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2003, and full membership of the International Cricket Council in June 2017. Afghanistan has its national cricket teams, which are among the top 10 cricketing countries in the world.

Job Summary

The Physiotherapist for the Afghanistan National Cricket Team will play a crucial role in ensuring the physical health, well-being, and performance optimization of cricket players. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with players in the High Performance Center including domestic and International events, supporting their rehabilitation, injury prevention, and overall fitness level.

Duties & Responsibilities

Injury Prevention and Assessment:

  • Conduct regular assessments to identify potential injury risks among players.
  • Develop and implement customized injury prevention strategies tailored to the demands of cricket.

Immediate Care and Management:

  • Provide immediate on-field care and first aid during matches and training sessions.
  • Assess and manage acute injuries, coordinating with medical staff and coaches as needed.
  • Ensure players receive appropriate treatment and follow-up care post-injury.

Rehabilitation and Recovery:

  • Design comprehensive rehabilitation programs for injured players, focusing on timely recovery and return to play.
  • Utilize therapeutic modalities, manual techniques, and exercise programs to facilitate healing and regain functionality.
  • Monitor players' progress and adjust rehabilitation plans based on ongoing assessments.

Fitness and Performance Enhancement:

  • Develop and oversee strength and conditioning programs to enhance players' physical fitness and cricket-specific skills.
  • Conduct fitness assessments and track players' progress to optimize performance levels.
  • Collaborate with coaches to integrate fitness and rehabilitation programs into overall training schedules.

Players Education:

  • Educate players, coaches, and support staff on injury prevention techniques, proper recovery methods, and overall physical health management to enhance performance and reduce downtime due to injuries.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of player assessments, treatments, and progress.
  • Prepare detailed reports on injuries, treatment plans, and rehabilitation outcomes for medical staff and management.
  • Communicate effectively with team officials and stakeholders regarding player health status and readiness to play.

Miscellaneous:

  • Any additional responsibilities or tasks assigned by the Head Coach or HPC department related to physio duties.

Working Conditions:

  • Variable working hours, including evenings, weekends and travel with the team during tours and tournaments (National & International).
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions and varied climates during matches and training sessions.
  • Physically demanding role requiring the ability to stand for long periods and provide on-field assistance as needed

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Physiotherapy or related field; additional certification in sports physiotherapy is advantageous.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience as a Physiotherapist with a focus on physio with any high-ranking team
  • Strong knowledge of sports injuries, rehabilitation techniques, and exercise physiology.
  • Playing a crucial role in elevating the overall Physiotherapy standards of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team, contributing to the team's success on the international stage.
  • The incumbent is required to work in Afghanistan or wherever the session/events are conducted
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Problem-solving ability and quick decision-making skills, especially in high-pressure situations during matches.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and travel with the team as required.
