About Afghanistan Cricket Board:

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is the sole independent governing body for managing, organizing, and developing Cricket (Men and Women) in Afghanistan. The game of cricket was officially established in 1995 in Afghanistan. It was granted affiliate membership by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2001, associate membership of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2003, and full membership of the International Cricket Council in June 2017. Afghanistan has its National Cricket Teams playing among the top 10 cricketing countries of the world.

 

Job Summary:

Director of Cricket shall be responsible for the development and managing of all cricket activities; These activities include overseeing the High-Performance Centre, execution of the cricket administrative side, long term actions for aligning cricket operations and all logistical aspects of all domestic, Junior’s home & away international series, matches (Men & Women) and providing best conditional turf facilities for domestic and national teams.

The director will also be responsible to develop & execute long-term high-performance strategic pillars aligned with FTP, Domestic, and International Cricket fixtures linked with High-Performance Centre Programs. He/She will also focus on monitoring and supervising the day-to-day activities of International Cricket, Domestic Cricket, Women Cricket, High-Performance Centre, and Facility & Turf Management departments. The director should plan to develop policies, procedures, and strategies for technical departments. He/She will be responsible for the development and results of all ACB’s Cricket programs, initiatives which is the key to producing future players.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Main Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical focal point between technical departments and the CEO of ACB.

  • Provide updates to the CEO regarding technical issues and high-quality cricket development programs.

  • Monitor and coordinate policies regarding coaches, players, programming, and other staff development.

  • Provide technical support to domestic, high performance, International Cricket, Women Cricket, and Facility & Turf management departments.

  • Focus on teams and support staff on the achievement of the domestic and international cricket agreed performance targets.

  • Improve the performance of teams and players disciplines across all formats.

  • Consistently improve the team’s win/loss ratio across all formats.

  • Improve the national coaching system

  • Improve the Afghanistan Team culture’s

  • Improve the selection and talent management processes

  • The team to steadily improve ICC rankings

  • Create a team culture that promotes unity, professionalism, and commitment to top performance on and off the field. Model the values expected of the team.

  • Develop and implement plans, strategies, and remedial work to consistently improve the performance of Afghanistan national, domestic Teams, and ACB’s contracted players

  • Develop strong working relationships with Team Management, the Captain, coach, players and establish clear role definitions and common purpose.

  • Ensure the team maintains an appropriate standard of discipline by ACB’s Code of Conduct and the ICC Code of Conduct both on and off the field.

  • Develop well planned and innovative teams’ programs geared at consistently improving overall team performance

  • Design and implement both in-competition and out-of-competition conditioning and skill development programs.

  • Lead the planning and coordination of practice and training sessions in conjunction with Team Management.

  • Conduct pre-game and post-game analysis with the team (i.e., game plans, debriefing) and devise appropriate methods to address findings.

  • Clarify the roles and increase the accountabilities of all cricket departments

  • Develop a succession plan for players and cricket administrators.

 

Major Responsibilities:

The Director of Cricket is responsible to provide solutions for all technical departments and establish a system to enrich the following departments.

  1. High-Performance Center

  2. International Cricket

  3. Domestic Cricket

  4. Women Cricket

  5. Facility & Turf Management

 

High-Performance Center:

  • Overseeing the High-Performance Center and its related programs.

  • Overseeing high-quality coaching, coaching education, player’s development, and rehab center activities.

  • Manage and follow the feedback and coaching reports of players’ performance and profiling records.

  • Monitor the development process of non-national selected players and domestic top performers for further development.

  • Applying some specific measures for the prevention of players’ injuries.

  • Looking after players conditional training to adapt players for specific conditions

 

International Cricket:

  • Overseeing the management of series, venue, and training camps for national senior & junior cricket teams to develop players, and travel on such programs as and when required.

  • Follow-up eligibility deadline with the ICC and check security, Anti-Corruption, technical staff (umpires & referees) availability with the concerned department.

  • International pre-tour and competition preparation, hosting, fixtures, playing conditions, issuing contracts, developing player’s benchmarks, and close coordination with the General Administration department for logistics, facilities & services.

 

Domestic Cricket:

  • Develop and oversee the domestic cricket plan.

  • Review & confirm the proposed changes to the domestic competition structure.

  • Ensure players are selected for different domestic formats on a merit-based.

  • Overseeing the management of series, venues, and training camps for regional cricket teams to develop players, and travels on such programs as and when required.

  • Develop & implement a proper player pathway for domestic cricket and monitor all the progress, plan, and budgeting.

  • Generating results from domestic administrators and technical supporting staff.

  • Monitoring domestic talent identification development (TID) parameters, trace the talent and monitor the domestic cricket guidelines.

  • Oversee the planning, budgeting, and implementation of the following events:

  1. Grade II

  2. Grade I

  3. Regional U-16 Tournament

  4. National T20 Tournament

  5. Regional 3-day

  6. Shpageeza

  7. First Class Tournament

  8. Regional PwD’s (Disable) Tournament

  9. Regional Inter-Club championship

  10. List A Tournament

  11. Camps

  12. Workshop

 

Women Cricket:

  • Overseeing the implementation of ACB strategies and plans towards the development of Women Cricket.

  • Organize quarterly meetings or the cross-women cricket departments and coordinate issues related to the program’s implementations and funding requirements.

  • As a director, he/she will decide the parameters for the selection team.

  • Developing women’s cricket education programs.

 

Facility & Turf Management:

  • Director of Cricket will be responsible to look after the Facility & Turf management which includes the infrastructure project designs, implementations, maintenance, irrigation, keeping standard grounds and pitches based on requirements.

  • Look after constructions, renovations, and reconstruction of cricket indoor and outdoor facilities.

  • Prepare the annual budget for the maintenance and capital improvement of cricket facilities by the master plan and define standards.

  • Provide professional advice, opinions, assistance to the technical & cricket administrative staff about the development of current conditions of the cricket fields and services.

  • Communicate regularly with Facility & Turf management regarding the requirements of the International Cricket and Domestic Cricket conditions.

 

Others:

  • Oversee the internal cricket trials and pre-season training programs ensuring that players of all abilities are nurtured effectively.

  • Recruitment of cricket coaches when necessary

  • Plan the coaching education programs with HPC (Umpiring, Coaching, Scorers, Curators, Referees, Performance Analyst, Physiotherapist, S&C Trainers, Masseurs)

  • Overseeing the maintenance and development of cricket facilities

  • Develop and manage the cricket plan and budgeting.

  • Oversee umpire’s role and performance. Assign umpires for events in coordination with ICC, ACC & or ACB CEO.

  • Manage the department’s reports.

  • Write reports to the management from time to time or when required.

 

Job Requirement:

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum Master’s Degree

  • Minimum ICC Level 3 Coaching Qualification

  • Demonstrable success as a cricket coach at the Domestic and/or international level.

  • Minimum of 7 years coaching experience, preferably with ICC Full Member(s).

  • Should have experience as Director of Cricket/similar role with associate member preferably with Full Member, for minimum 5 years.

  • Must have enough experience in managing domestic and national cricket of a full member nation.

  • Ability to motivate and influence professional cricketers, coaches, and teams

  • Resilience and energy to operate in a challenging and high-profile working environment

  • Proven ability to operate with professionalism and integrity in challenging situations

  • Exceptional planning, coordination, and organizational skills

Travel Requirement

  • The Director of Cricket may be required to travel to Afghanistan from time to time.
