BANGLADESH RECORD THEIR FIRST T20I VICTORY AGAINST AFGHANISTAN SINCE 2014

A great knock by Bangladeshi Skipper Shakib al Hasan helped his side beat Afghanistan by 4 wickets in the sixth match of the Tri-nation T20I series in Chattogram to record their first win against the latter in the shortest format since 2014.

Having won the toss, Bangladesh opted to field first in the second match of the tournament between both sides. Afghanistan’s opening pair of Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz gave them a great start as the pair added 75 runs for the first wicket before Zazai lost his wicket for 47 runs. Zazai's wicket triggered a collapse as Afghanistan lost 5 wickets within the next three overs. A cameo of 23 runs by Shafiqullah Shafaq and 11 runs from Skipper Rashid Khan helped Afghanistan post 138/7 on board setting a target of 139 for Bangladesh.

In response, Bangladesh lost their first two wickets quickly as Liton Das and Najmul Hossain were out for 4 and 5 runs respectively. A 58-run partnership between Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim stabilized Bangladesh’s innings before a mini collapse brought Afghanistan back into the game.

However, Player of the match Shakib al Hasan’s calculated innings ensured Bangladesh chased the target with an over to spare.

Both sides will face each other again in the Final of the tournament on 24th September.
