Afghanistan to play Scotland in May

Afghanistan will visit Scotland in May this year to play a two-match ODI series against the host country on 8th and 10th May at the Grange in Edinburgh.

Afghanistan last visited Scotland in July 2016 for two One Day Internationals at the same venue. After an abandoned first match, due to rain, Afghanistan came out on top in the 2nd ODI with a 78-run win having bowled Scotland all out for 132.

In their most recent encounter in last year’s ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe, Scotland defeated Afghanistan in the group stage reaching their target of 256 in 47 overs following an unbeaten knock of 157 from Calum Macleod.

Shafiqullah Stanikzai, CEO Afghanistan Cricket Board commented: “We are excited about the two-match ODI series with Scotland in May 2019 which is the best possible timing from weather forecast perspective. It would be helpful for Afghanistan in terms of conditioning ahead of the 2019 Cricket World Cup in England and Wales. Scotland is a strong side and has given us tough time in the past and we are very much looking forward to competitive cricket again in May this year.”

Cricket Scotland CEO Malcolm Cannon said "It is fantastic to have attracted two Full Members for our Summer Internationals this year and we are delighted to be playing Afghanistan in May. We have had some really tight matches with them in recent years and we look forward to another challenging ODI series with them"
