Afghanistan National and Emerging teams depart for India training camp

Afghanistan National and Emerging teams’ squads departed for India today to participate in a training camp in Chennai.

Addressing the players participating in the camp, ACB chairman Azizullah Fazli said: “You (Players) are the representatives of the whole nation who expect a lot from you. We hope that you will learn a lot during the training camp and use the experience to bring more victories to the country. “

Fazli added that ACB vows to provide players with all the facilities required in order to prepare them well for not only the upcoming Emerging Teams Asia Cup but also put them on track  as they prepare for next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup. He expressed confidence that both the teams will bring more achievements."

The purpose of the training camp for the Emerging team is to prepare and select a squad for the upcoming Emerging Teams Asia Cup in December.

The Emerging team will play five practice 50-over matches against the national team as part of the camp which will help the players strengthen their fitness and work on their techniques.

As the camp concludes, a 15-member final squad will be selected amongst the 24 players for next month’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup which starts from 5th December jointly hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Besides Afghanistan, the tournament features Emerging teams from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, UAE and Oman. 

The 24-member squad of national team players who also departed for India today, will participate in a month-long training camp which forms the initial stage of their preparations for next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup.

Apart from the five One-Day matches against the Emerging team, the national team will also play three matches against a team from Chennai and two other practice matches between the participating players in the camp.

It shall be noted that national team will continue its World Cup preparation in different stages through training camps conducted in India until February 2019 before Afghanistan take on Ireland for a full series including one three T20Is, five ODIs and one Test match.
