Afghanistan under 19 beat Pakistan by 5 wickets in their first match of the ICC Under 19 World Cup in New Zealand.
Having won the toss, Pakistan elected to bat first. They suffered an early blow in the first over of the match as opener Muhammad Zaid was caught by Ibrahim Zadran off Naveen ul Haq for a duck. Wicketkeeper-bastman Rohail Nazir played a good innings for Pakistan as he built an important partnership of 88 runs with Ali Zaryab.
After the dismissal of Rohail Nazir for 81, a collapse ensued as Pakistan gave away their last seven wickets for 42 runs. Afghan fast bowler Azmatullah Omarzai and legspinner Qais Ahmad picked up three wickets each to restrict Pakistna to 188 and setting a target of 189 for Afghansitan.
Afghanistan had a slow start to their chase and were initially reduced to 50 for 3 before Darwish Rasooli and Ikram Alikhel put on a crucial fourth wicket partnership of 75. Rasooli who remained unbeaten for 76 was supported by Nisar Wahdat (17) and Azmatullah Omarzai (12*). Darwish struck Mohammad Taha for a six to help Afghanistan cruiseto victory in 47.3 overs.
