The Afghanistan cricket team is undergoing fitness training from at the Alokozay – Kabul International Cricket Stadium in Kabul ahead of their tour to Ireland in March, 2017.
Afghanistan Cricket Team manager Wali Amin said that, “The fitness camp is all about the fitness of players, our players are not fully fit, because of no time to work out with players on their fitness. Now we have enough time and ACB decide to organize a fitness camp under the supervision of Mr. Jason Douglas Strength & Conditioning expert.”
“First phase of fitness camp started on 12 October, and will be for 6 weeks and the second phase will also be for 4 weeks, he continued.”
In the second phase team management will decide for next training camp and will appoint more players. Asghar Stanikzai, Mohammad Nabi, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Javed Ahmadi, Mohammad Shahzad, Rahmat Shah, Noor Ali Zadran, Dawlat Zadran, Karim Janat, Ihsanullah Janat and Sami Shinwari are attending fitness camp.

“Together with the Head Coach (Lalchand Rajput) and Physio (Azeem Malik) we selected players who we feel need additional work and rehabilitation before the start of our preseason. Some have been selected to work on strength, others speed and agility and some selected to target weight loss. Over the next few weeks I will monitor their progress to ensure that each reaches the goals I have set for them.”
“It will take hard work and dedication from each of the players involved over the next few weeks but the results will help us in the busy schedule we have coming up from January 2017.” Jason Douglas, Strength and Conditioning trainer of Afghanistan Cricket Board said.
Afghanistan’s captain Asghar Stanikzai admitted that while the first few days under the fitness training camp were tough, the players had begun enjoying it.
“The training camp is amazing and we are enjoying it,” said Stanikzai. “When we came here, the first few days were quite hard-hitting but now day by day improvements are becoming visible and the boys are loving the camp now.
“The trainers are doing an amazing job with us. They are working to improve the player’s fitness. I hope that after this camp there will be a lot of development in the fitness standards of the players,” he continued.
“We are feeling better than before and I hope we can carry on with the routines that we learnt here which will help us in the future.”
On Monday, veteran batsman Mohammad Shahzad echoed Stanikzai’s views, saying that everyone is enjoying the camp organized for the national team.”
“But from the day we came here on October 12, the way the team has progressed has been amazing,” he said. The trainers have helped us a lot. We were thinking that we will be pushed a lot and we will have to put in a lot of hard work and that did eventually happen but the respect that we received from our trainers was amazing.”
