Afghanistan’s mind blowing T20I record in 2015-2016

Home / News / International News

If you have a look at Afghanistan’s record in T20Is in the past two years, it’s nothing less than a fairy tale. In 14 T20 Internationals Afghanistan have played against Associate-nations in the last two years, they have ended up winning 12 of those games at an astonishing win percentage of 85.71%. Isn’t that an amazing record? This shows the way the team has improved and evolved into a champion side.

Beating sides like the United Arab Emirates, Netherlands and Scotland quite convincingly in the shortest format in 2015 and then beating World T20 champions West Indies during the World T20, has been a notable effort by the Afghan Tigers. The team has travelled to Europe, they have gone to the Middle-East, have performed in Bangladesh and have put up some brave fights in India during the World T20.  They can play in all conditions and adapt to the changes quickly and that needs to be applauded.

Players like Mohammad Shahzad and Mohammad Nabi along with a fabulous bowling unit in the likes of Dawlat Zadran, Shapoor Zadran and Rashid Khan have been the pioneers of Afghanistan’s superb T20I record in recent times. The only team which has created some trouble for them has been Hong Kong against whom they have lost two and won two T20Is.

Beating other Associates and lower ranked T20I teams seems to be a walk in the park for the Blue Tigers. They are 9th in T20I rankings and are gradually moving up. Afghanistan have left behind teams likes Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Scotland, Netherlands and Ireland and have announced that they are here to win and show other teams who the boss is. Their never-say-die attitude, fighting spirit and sportsmanship deserve a standing ovation. Below mentioned are Afghanistan’s T20I statistics in T20Is (2015 – 2016).
