Afghanistan beat Netherlands in its first official match of ICC T20 qualifiers. The Dutch captain won the toss and elected to bowl first. Afghanistan set the target of 163 runs to the opposite team. Samiullah Shinwari was the leading scorer with 44 while Mohammad Nabi and Najib Zadran scored 33 runs each.
Netherlands could not reach the target and lost all wickets. They scored 130 and lost the match by 32 runs. Sharafuding Ashraf and Dawlat Zadran got 3 wickets each while Mohammad Nabi and Hamid Hassan added one wicket each into their tally. Sharafudin Ashraf was named as player of the match.
The leadership and management of Afghanistan Cricket Board congratulated the entire nation for the huge victory over Netherlands. CEO, Shafiqullah Stanikzai praised the performance of the national and hoped for the better display of the team in the upcoming games.
Chairman ACB, Nasimullah Danish praised the preparations of national team for the tournament and added that the team played with full potential in the opening game. He said that the team will have more success in the upcoming games. The leadership and entire staff of Cricket watched the game live in the in-door Cricket academy at the headquarters of the board. In another match played today Scotland beat UAE.
Fourteen (14) teams are participating in the ICC T20 qualifier. Afghanistan is placed in “B” group alongside Scotland, Netherland, UAE, Kenya, Oman and Canada.
