The selection committee announced Afghanistan’s squads in a press conference for the two T20Is and five ODIs against Zimbabwe in February at Sharjah, UAE.
This follows the completion of a 16-day camp in Nangarhar in which 26 players took part and played five selection matches amongst themselves.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad has been included in both T20I and ODI squad, who will be eligible to play for Afghanistan after his one-year ban expires on 16th January. Fast bowler, Hamid Hassan, who has been in and out of the national sides due to his knee injury, also makes a comeback in the T20I squad. ACB chief selector, Nawroz Mangal expressed confidence that Shahzad is ready to represent Afghanistan again. He said that “Shahzad is passionate and eager to play again for Afghanistan and we hope that he will be at his best in this series.”
Afghanistan is scheduled to play two T20Is and five ODIs against Zimbabwe from 5th – 19th February 2018 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, UAE. This will be Afghanistan’s second series after obtaining the Full Member of ICC in June 2017. The series will be important for both sides as they prepare for the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in March this year.
