Afghanistan Cricket Board has appointed former Australian cricketer and famous cricket commentator, Dean Jones, as interim head coach of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team for the upcoming tour of Hong Kong where Afghanistan will face Hong Kong in the Intercontinental Cup fixture on 20th October.
The former right-handed batsman played 52 Tests for Australia scoring 3631 at an average of 46.55 and 164 ODIs 6068 runs at an average of 44.61. He will succeed Lalchand Rajput who was the Head Coach of Afghanistan until August this year following the completion of his one-year contract.
Dean Jones served as the Head Coach of Islamabad United, which is one of Pakistan Super League franchises, and guided the side to its championship of the league in 2016. He has also worked as a Consultant to Cricket Australia as a batting coach.
ACB and Dean Jones will consider a long-term coaching agreement after the tour of Hong Kong.
